SHP Giving Program
The Executive Team is excited to announce the SHP Giving Program, an internal grant program comprising a series of funds that provide multiple opportunities for new and existing chapters to receive financial support. Please click on the video to view this exciting announcement from our Executive Director Luke Mickelson as well as Chairman of the Board, Jordan Allen, and Director of Marketing, Mitchell Mathews. Then, feel free to explore below to learn even more about each of the three funds that make up the SHP Giving Program.
Why have three funds?
In order to best support SHP chapters in diverse stages of development and maturity that span many states, we have established three distinct funds. Each fund has a unique purpose with individual criteria that is necessary for sustainability. For instance, the SHP Support Fund is designed for all chapters who have three (3) builds documented and reported on the Chapter President’s Report (CPR) in CX, to apply for funds that can be used without certain restrictions, like purchasing a trailer or renting a storage unit. On the other hand, the Lowe’s Chapter Support Fund is made possible by gift card contributions from Lowe’s and places restrictions on how you can use the award. Finally, the Lowe’s Perpetual Start-Up Fund is also made possible by Lowe’s gift card contributions, but is designed specifically for new chapters to purchase their tool kits and requires repayment. For more details about the individual criteria, check out the infographic and funding sections below.
SHP Support Fund
SHP is excited to present the SHP Support Fund. This program is designed to help each SHP Chapter continue to be successful and provide even more beds to children across our growing footprint. To qualify for these funds, a chapter must have three (3) builds documented and reported on the Chapter President’s Report (CPR).
The SHP Support Fund is made possible by various donors through events like Giving Tuesday, general donations or grants received by SHQ for the organization as a whole. Each chapter is eligible to apply for up to $2,500 annually. It is important to note that there are no set funding sources for the Support Fund and the amount available for this fund may vary greatly from year to year.
These funds should be requested to purchase items or services that are otherwise difficult or impossible to obtain using a Lowe’s Gift Card.
For example, these funds could be used by themselves, or in conjunction with other chapter funds to purchase mattresses, a trailer, trailer branding (wrap or decals), or other emergency expenses to bridge funding gaps in local donations (storage payments, etc.). The SHP Support Fund, as with all other donated funds, require accurate and timely recording of the funds spent in Divvy.
The Chapter President’s Advisory Committee (CPAC) will review each application, with its supporting documentation and approve/deny the award. It is important that each applicant provide as much background as possible for their review. The CPAC meets monthly and will review/approve fund applications during those meetings.
We are humbled and grateful for the funds we have received from our many donors and the opportunity to provide each of you the opportunity to increase your chapter’s ability to fulfill our mission of “No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town.”
As one of SHP’s biggest supporters from the very beginning, Lowe’s has always caught the SHP vision and continues to provide the kind of support that makes all the difference in our ability to accomplish our mission that no kid sleeps on the floor in our town. Lowe’s support starts with over $1 million that has made it possible to establish the Lowe’s Chapter Support Fund and the Lowe’s Perpetual Start-Up Fund.
Lowe’s Chapter Support Fund
SHP is excited to present the Lowe’s Chapter Support Fund. This program is designed to help each SHP Chapter continue to be successful and provide even more beds to children across our growing footprint.
The Lowe’s Chapter Support Fund is made possible by a generous grant to SHP by Lowe’s Corporate. Over the course of several months in 2019, SHQ worked directly with the Lowe’s executives to secure funding that not only aligns with SHP’s mission but also aligns with the Lowe’s vision and mission as well. Because of the Lowe’s Chapter Support Fund we are able to make available to every chapter an opportunity to secure up to $8,000 per chapter over the course of this next year. These funds can be used to purchase tools and bed building supplies for public builds.
Because of the nature of the Lowe’s Chapter Support Fund, any dollars received must be used at a local Lowe’s store and only towards tools and bed building supplies – this does NOT include storage costs, building location rent/costs, etc. and requires accurate and timely recording of the funds spent.
Lowe’s Perpetual Start-Up Fund
SHP is excited to present the Lowe’s Perpetual Start-Up Fund. This program is designed to help each new SHP Chapter start off on the right foot and begin immediately to provide beds to children across our growing footprint.
The Lowe’s Perpetual Start-Up Fund is made possible by a generous grant to SHP by Lowe’s Corporate. Over the course of several months in 2019, SHQ worked directly with the Lowe’s executives to secure funding that not only aligns with SHP’s mission but also aligns with the Lowe’s vision and mission as well. Because of the Lowe’s Perpetual Start-Up Fund, we are able to make available to every new chapter an opportunity to secure $4,000 over the course of this next year. These funds can be used to purchase the initial tools and equipment kit for public builds.
Because of the nature of the Lowe’s Perpetual Start-Up Fund, any dollars received must be used at a local Lowe’s store and only towards tools and equipment first, and lumber second. This does NOT include storage costs, trailer or vehicle purchases, building location rent/costs, etc. and requires accurate and timely recording of the funds spent.
In order to establish a perpetual fund that never goes away and is continually available to every new future SHP chapter, this fund requires repayment within 12 months. This allows Lowe’s contribution to exist in perpetuity and support future chapters in getting kids off the floor and into hand-made beds.
New chapters receive additional details about how to apply for the Lowe’s Perpetual Start-Up Fund as part of the onboarding process.
